How Three Thirty Started
On the first day of my after-school fencing club, my coach stood up and said:
"I'm here to help you believe in yourself, and I'm going to do it by teaching you how to fence."
At the time, it sounded a bit silly. But it stayed with me - because he was right.
Fencing opened the door for me to represent Great Britain and win Commonwealth and World Championship medals. But more importantly, it taught me how to show up when things felt hard, how to fail, improve, and try again.
That mindset stayed with me long after any competition.
Looking back, I realise I was unusually lucky. I grew up with a coach who valued character as much as performance, and those skills have stayed with me ever since.
When I later met my co-founder, Theo, we realised how rarely after-school clubs are designed to build confidence. Most are focused on delivering activities, not developing character or confidence.
We believe helping children feel confident should come first.
Confidence compounds over time and shapes how they approach school, friendships, and everyday life.
That belief became the foundation for everything we built at Three Thirty.

What makes Three Thirty different is how intentionally our clubs are designed. We keep groups small, work with consistent instructors, and create clear moments of progress, so children feel seen, supported, and proud of what they’re capable of.
What started as a small club in Theo’s garden now reaches thousands of children each week through our partner schools and our flagship club in Islington.
But this is just the start.
We’re building Three Thirty to redesign the after-school hours so every child, whatever their interests, can build confidence they’ll carry for life.
